Asher Reizen
Asher grew up for his first 7 years in a small home with a mother and father, unknown to his community. He was never registered for school or anything- his entire world was the small building. He was more of a punching bag for his parent's aggression and drunken rage.

When his 7th birthday came in, so did the carnival. He had learned quickly not to ask for anything, but that didn't change his love for the colors and excitement he could hear from the kids outside. So, he got up the courage to ask to go. At first, his "parents" refused. However, his mother whispered something to his father, who smiled and then agreed. Asher couldn't contain his happiness- he tried to tame his wild hair, and couldn't keep the smile from his face.

When the family arrived, his mother and father told him to wait at the entrance for them to get tickets. He didn't mind at all; he was thrilled, in fact. They were doing something for him for the first time in his life.

First minutes passed, then hours. The carnival began to shut down for the night, and there was no sign of their return. He was shocked, confused. He wasn't quite sure what to even do. As he sat there, someone approached him.

Their expressions showed that they had no grasp of the situation, or the life Asher had led. However, they welcomed him in. Seeing him so upset the clown, Millie, took the small pink rabbit down from one of the prize rows to give to him. At first, they assumed his parents would come to pick him up. He was extremely quiet, but let little bits of his story slip on occasion until they learned the whole story.

They began to treat him as one of their own, slowly letting him open up and reveal his true personality. Together, they came up with his name. Reizen was the family name of the head of the carnival, Darren. And Asher was a name they simply liked.

A year later, when he was 8, they decided to let him try to go to school. He had shown interest, and they wanted him to be able to pursue any future he desired. He showed up in the middle of a school year to a third grade class, with a heart on one cheek, tear drop on the other, his hair pulled into a ponytail with a clip-in pink highlight, and a nice large clown bow tie. Needless to say, the others teased him behind the teacher's back, sending his self esteem back down to rock bottom in record time.

So, one night he decided the world must really not need him. That his life with the carnival was a dream he needed to wake up from, and soon. He got dressed and went out into the street.

Every night since he arrived, Millie would check on Asher to see how he was doing. That night, when she realized he wasn't there, she woke everyone and together they searched.

Just as the truck approached, not seeing Asher in its path, Darren dove out into the road, curling around Asher to protect him from the force of the impact as much as possible.

When Asher awoke, he was in a hospital bed, with Darren in one next to him, in terrible shape and barely conscious, the rest of the group gathered around the two. Asher sobbed, and sobbed. He blamed himself- claimed to only have been a problem from the very beginning. Darren told him to not think that way- that he had a family and home now. He placed his hat on Asher's head before falling asleep, not to wake for a very long time.

The others appointed Asher as the official head of the carnival until Darren would recover, and instead of returning to school, he began to practice everything with everyone.

Darren's words drove Asher's actions for the rest of his life.
"Live your life. Bring happiness to yourself, and to everyone around you. Protect the weak- be a man greater than anyone who stood in your way."
