Re: Chapter 1: Trial

Post by Eloise Rutford on Wed Apr 10, 2013 9:45 pm

By the end of it Eloise had her head against the podium. Her hands were buried in her hair and if anything she was clearly distressed.
She screamed. It was hoarse and sounded like it was forced out of a tiny straw.

And only moments later she straightened up, slowly unfurling. She gave a long quiet look at the scene and brushed her hair back, folding her hands in front of her.
"Nobody has plans of repeating this, yes?"
In her head she ran the possibilities. The window was a screen, definitely a screen. Everyone was lying by the skin of their teeth.
"Good. Good!" She leaned back a bit, but found herself slightly dizzy. She laughed a bit at her slight wobble, and covered her mouth with her hand.

Re: Chapter 1: Trial

Post by Herbert Smith on Wed Apr 10, 2013 9:47 pm

Herbert was ready to turn and apologize to Asher for his conduct at the trial, but he quickly made a sour face. Friendship.

He quickly turned and paced away quickly, trying to distance himself from a growing feeling of loneliness. For some reason, he couldn't help but think he knew the deceased athlete more than just for a night. No way someone with such self-professed poo poo throwing skills could be so proficient at darts on his first time. It looked like he had at least a year of practice.
Yet Eloise's scream brought him back to reality. His head snapped towards her direction before slowly looking back down. He stuck his hands in his pockets, waiting to leave.

Re: Chapter 1: Trial

Post by Marci Gracidon on Wed Apr 10, 2013 9:49 pm

Marci had tried to breath evenly and had tried to stay calm as Alex had gone through that horrible, demonic maze, but after that last open door closed, a look of pure horror spread on her face. She tried to think, but thoughts buzzed around her head. Two gone, eight left. She had a feeling that this wasn't the end. Two gone with many more to join them. She had done many things, not all amazingly good, but she did not deserve to die. None of them did. And the answers the bear offered only left her with more questions. Questions only left her with more answers needed. 'How?' replaced by 'Why?'.

She looked at her friends, attempted to find some form of solace in their faces, and found looks even more terrified than hers. She offered a smile. If she couldn't help herself, she should at least try and help others.

Adda smiled sheepishly and walked over to the wall, where she slid down to a sitting position.
"Monobear... can we be on our way? Staying here won't accomplish anything," she sighed. Between trauma, blood loss, and the mental exhaustion of the trial, she just wanted to be on her way- she could already feel everything begin to take its toll.

Re: Chapter 1: Trial

Post by Laura Besley on Wed Apr 10, 2013 9:51 pm

Laura looked Asher up and down, then smiled. She had been surprised when he hugged her, but not unpleasantly. "Thanks, man. That really means a lot," she said. She tried to force some tears to make it a more emotional moment, but she couldn't so she just rubbed her eyes a bit for effect. She was glad Asher still wanted to be around her, but somewhere deep down she felt a little guilty that she couldn't just leave him alone as well. She tried to ignore that feeling.

As the other classmates regained themselves, she became impatient. "For once, I agree with Adda," she muttered. "Look at Eloise. She needs to leave, she's a loving mess!"

"Hey! Cut the sappy relationship talk!" Monobear huffed, his mechanical arms on his hips. "But yes, I'm letting you bastards go. I got some cleaning to do! Our kickboxer made quite a mess! Almost as messy as his hair, Upupupupupu!"

The bear turned away, walking and jumping into the middle of the carnage. Suddenly, he turned back. "Don't forget! I have our next little handout almost ready!" He almost gave a cheery wave as he jumped down out of sight as a loud, metallic swoosh echoed through the room. The elevator was open.

Asher looked to the sides awkwardly, spun on his heel, and walked towards the elevator. He stopped by the doors, turning his head to Laura, unsure of what her actions would be.
You screwed this up just about as bad as the time the animal trainer forgot to lock the cage to the tigers. First relationship, and you blow it. Great job, carny.

Re: Chapter 1: Trial

Post by Laura Besley on Wed Apr 10, 2013 10:16 pm

Laura readjusted her cap and hobbled over into the elevator next to Adda. She knew the girl didn't like her very much, but if she was going to stay alive long enough in this school, she'd have to avoid making enemies with someone who was in the largest group out of the remaining students. She shifted her elbow onto her crutch and leaned down just enough so that she was at eye level with the other girl.

"So what'd you think of the execution?" she said as she waited for the others to gather into the elevator. It was an odd question for sure, but she was interested to hear a response.

Oscar didn't twitch until he finally registered that Adda was walking towards him.

"Th-th-the door's open?" It was almost too good to be true, despite being a rather simple thing. He released his hands from the podium and anxiously made his way towards the door, without saying much else and keeping his eyes ahead of him. Just before leaving the room he couldn't stop himself from taking one last look at the carnage. Oscar regretted it immediately.

After Herbert spoke, Adda looked at Laura, baffled. "Wh-what did I think?" She honestly couldn't believe that was even a question- it seemed like a general consensus that it was terrible and brutal, "I think no one, not even he deserves a death like that." But she wasn't referring to Alex.
"Sorry about the way I acted during the trial, I just wanted to be sure of what decisions were being reached..." her voice trailed off. While she wanted to explain her thought process, she wasn't sure of bringing this up.

Re: Chapter 1: Trial

Post by David River on Wed Apr 10, 2013 10:23 pm

Upon the prompt of being able to leave, something inside David snapped and he moved, rather robotically, over to the elevator. I can't be late, he thought instinctively.

He stood across from Herbert and looked at him. He didn't mind the other's presence, but he didn't really mind anything at this point because he had just watched a kid get crushed to death and anything worldy wouldn't really compare on any scale whatsoever. He looked at Herbert again and tipped his hat. "M'sorry. Knew you two were close. Or sumthin'. Not one to pry at the moment."

He looked up to the other kids as the entered the elevator. He heard Laura's question and scowled. "I thought it really showed how beautiful humanity can be," he said, bitter sarcasm in his voice. "Don't you?"

Re: Chapter 1: Trial

Laura was entirely uninterested in Adda's response. David too. His attempt at being sarcastic bored her, it was completely predictable. She gave Adda an out-of-place pat on the shoulder, then turned to Herbert, grinning. "Oh? I'd like to know what you think about all of this too, though! After all, it was because you got too close with Alex that you let your guard down and he slipped away to murder someone with your chimes."

Just a little farther. She wanted to push Herbert's envelope just a little farther, until he was angry enough to make an impression on everyone.

Asher leaned against a wall of the elevator, one foot planted on the cool surface. Looking at the others to make sure their attention was occupied, he removed his hat, staring at the contents- a stuffed rabbit, clearly worn with age. After a few moments, he placed the hat back on his head and drifted into thought.

She quietly followed her friends and stood next to them. Laura was getting on her nerves, unsurprisingly. She never thought the girl and her were destined to get along, also unsurprisingly. She forced herself to stay quiet, though, because she didn't need to be making enemies at the moment. That was the last thing she wanted to do.

"I'm okay," Laura's pointing out of her made Eloise slightly defensive, but her reply was aimed at no one in particular.

Once the door opened, Eloise made her way into the elevator swiftly, without much second thought. The trifling questions did little to catch her attention.
"Look, it's simple, we can just make this a one-time thing. It's not hard!" She wanted the whole class to get the message. She did her best to seem as collected as possible. It wasn't a bad job.

Re: Chapter 1: Trial

Laura smirked and leaned back against the wall of the elevator, waiting for it to go up. "I think we can all agree that the only reason there was a murder is because Alex was a nutjob," Laura said nonchalantly. "Unless one of you has intentions of following suit and going out the same way, I don't see it happening again any time soon."

She meant it. Laura couldn't imagine that there would be another murder. But if there was, she could be damn sure that she wasn't going to be the victim. She had a lot more to do before she was ready to die.

Oscar scratches his hand nervously, the tone of the conversation putting him very much on edge.
"G-guys you saw..." He wanted to speak up, but it didn't go to plan. "...happened..."
He stopped.

In the end he gave up and huddled closer to Adda and Marci in the elevator. He prayed it'd go up soon.

Herbert's lip curled. Looks like he'd have to give her a stern talking to one of these days. Sadly, the only way would be to silence her forever. He'd rather not do that.
His hatred was always so obvious.
"Loike yer one ta talk. We all got pushed against a wall. S'matter of time til we are again." And he wasn't even going to begin with his dead friend's defense. "Don't speak ill o' tha freshly dead. I bet the body's not even cold."

"Body?" Laura almost giggled, but realized a moment in advance that it would be more than telling about her. "I doubt there's a body left. He got what he deserved. He murdered a defenseless kid in cold blood." She glanced at Herbert out of the side of her eyes, and her voice got much quieter, but still loud enough that anyone in the elevator could hear. "I'd almost say you sympathize with him. That's loving disgusting."

Asher lifted his head to address the others.
"Haven't we all said it by now? Things are tense. Why not cut the serious chat and cool down- I honestly don't think anyone's in the mood for this- and its too soon to be at each other's throats again." It would benefit everyone to just go to their dorms and spend some time apart.

"I agree, let's cut this off here. Everyone good?" What she meant to ask is if everyone had their fill of heartless commentary. She was sick of it, sick to her stomach.

She leaned over to the button on the panel by the door, and punched it in with her finger. The pained groan of the elevator's workings confirmed it.
